A gathering of Graduandi

A graduation is always a wonderful time for a celebration and the Spring Graduation at the University of Pretoria on the 2nd September 2009 was no exception.  This celebration was somewhat different to the usual graduations as it was held on the LC De Villiers sports grounds.  What was no different was the number of students receiving their MSc and PhD degrees.  For the Faculty of Natural Science and Agriculture this was 22 PhD and 50 Masters degrees.  The Centre of Excellence in Tree Health Biotechnology (CTHB) was not left out of the proceedings either.  Three PhD candidates were awarded their degrees (Irene Barnes, Ronald Heath and Draginja Pavlic) as were four MSc candidates, Joha Grobbelaar, Vuledzani Muthelo, Natalie Van Zuydam and Markus Wilken.

The CTHB have thus had a very successful year in terms of post graduate student graduations.  In the April Graduation, a further 1 PhD and 2 MSc students received their degrees.  Juanita de Wet was awarded her PhD but was unable to attend the ceremony as she is now living in Dubai. Happy Maleme who has featured in many CTHB photographs and Video footage received her MSc.  Francois van der Walt also received his MSc degree at the Fall Graduation.
