Spoof 20080’s
The 80’s were characterised by big hair, big shoulder pads, key board music and bad taste. This year’s Spoof event was a resurrection of the era most people want to forget. An A-list party to remember was attended by Michael Jackson, Vanilla ICE, Tina Turner, Blondie’s and some more obscure 80’s stars. The night glittered with diamantes, luminescent eye shadow and serious mullets.
SPOOF is an acronym for the Society for the Presentation of Outrageous Findings. We were privileged to receive presentations on solving the current energy crisis from Albe van der Merwe, the true origins and intricacies of the Percy Collin’s Rhapsody (PCR) and an informative video on day to day activities of the lab in a style similar to The Office by Simon Martin and his colleagues. “Farbie” and Tina Turner also delighted the audience with their presentation on the distribution of different Barbie types through southern Africa.
The effort made by the CTHB students to the evening was evident in the wonderful presentations made and the prizes won. Two of the CTHB students, Kershney Naidoo and Osmond Mlonyeni, won the prizes for best dressed woman and man. Kershney dressed up as a very convincing Tina Turner and Osmond Mlonyeni impersonated Michael Jackson. This added great character and an atmosphere of frivolity to the evening.
The celebrations went on until late that evening. All the guests were warmed with wonderful food and bonfires. Thank you to the wonderful social club and to the other Fabians who made the evening a truly enjoyable event.
