FABI recently hosted a visit by board members of the Southern African Macadamia Growers’ Association (SAMAC) to the institute and its biocontrol facility. SAMAC membership comprises macadamia nut growers, processors and marketers. South Africa is now the largest exporter of Macadamia nuts to the international market having recently surpassed Australia.

The group acquainted themselves with the world-class research being conducted at FABI on combatting tree pests and pathogens and the biocontrol work being done at the biocontrol facility on the University’s experimental farm. The Association is exploring the possibility of linking with FABI to establish a research team that can serve and advise their members on the control of pests and diseases.
