Thursday 11 February marked a sad day on the FABI calendar as we said farewell to Marlene Harney. Marlene started working at the FABI Biocontrol Centre seven years ago and has played an instrumental role in the management and expansion of the Centre. In those seven years, the FABI Biocontrol Centre has provided support for multiple MSc and PhD projects, released three biological agents for eucalypt insect pests, produced billions of nematodes and grew substantially with regards to facilities, staff and projects. The Centre is now a key component of the research output and extension of the Tree Protection Cooperative Programme (TPCP) and has become a centre of expertise and support in biological control of forest insects for South Africa, as well as other African countries.

We thank Marlene for her amazing contribution to FABI and wish her the very best for her future. Marlene will be immigrating to Germany with her husband Dirk.
