FABI Director and IUFRO President, Prof. Mike Wingfield, recently visited Lahti in Finland to lead an IUFRO management meeting and also to participate in a bioeconomy symposium arranged by LUKE - the Finnish Natural Resources Institute. The latter meeting focussed strongly on the future of forests and the role that they will play in the production of, for example, new wood products. The meeting was held in the amazing Sebelius Concert Hall, a remarkable building largely produced (constructed) of wood and built incorporating the remains of an old saw mill. Other than outstanding presentations, the meeting provided the IUFRO leadership an opportunity to meet with top executives of LUKE, an Institution that provides important support for various IUFRO projects.
