Prof. Jolanda Roux, an associate professor in FABI, has been awarded the prestigious Havenga Prize for Natural Sciences by the Suid Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns (South African Academy for Arts and Science) at a ceremony on 29 September. The Havenga Prize is given annually by the Academy for original research in the natural sciences or a technological field. 

The award recognizes the extensive research work in the field of tree health that Prof. Roux has done over the past 25 years. She has supervised more than 70 MSc and PhD students from South Africa, other countries in Africa, Asia, South America and the USA, as well as authoring more than 170 articles in ISI-rated peer-reviewed journals. Part of the citation read by Prof. Bernard Slippers, describes Prof. Roux as “one of South Africa’s exceptional scientists whose work is recognized both nationally and internationally. Her contribution to science research in Africa is widely recognized and appreciated”.
