Research Interests

I completed my MSc. degree in Plant Pathology at the Guilan University in Iran. I am registered at the University of Pretoria with the Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute doing my PhD in 2008. I am under the direct supervision of Dr Marieka Gryzenhout, Prof. Bernard Slippers and Pro. Mike Wingfield.
My PhD project includes Identification of Acacia Karroo diseases and study on the taxonomy and ecology of associated Botryosphaeriaceae in South Africa.

Botryosphaeriaceae

  Acacia karroo

Common names: Sweet thorn (English); Soetdoring (Afrikaans); Mookana (North Sotho); Mooka (Tswana); umuNga (Zulu) (Xhosa)

Order: Fabales

Family: Leguminosae

Sub family: Mimosoideae

Acacia karroo is the most widespread native acacia in southern Africa and it is included in the national weed list in South Africa and it is one of the fastest growing of all the indigenous acacia species (Timberlake et. al., 1999).

I have a good opportunity for visiting most part of South Africa during my project and the best chance is working in FABI.
