Research Interests
My PhD study focuses on inducing dwarfism in E. tef which critically suffers from an inherent problem of lodging. In my project, the development of short stature genotypes is
aimed at identifying, cloning and regulating the specific tissue expression of genes related to the control of plant height. The resulting genetically dwarf genotype might be employed for
the design of high yielding Tef varieties with improved standing ability.
I obtained MSc in India at the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) focusing on tissue culture application for the micro-propagation of horticultural plants. I also obtained trainings
in plant breeding in US, advanced Plant Biotechnology techniques in Germany and application of molecular techniques in biological control in Egypt. I have been working for the Ethiopian
Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR) to improve agricultural technologies such as developing improved crop varieties through conventional breeding, crop agronomy and seed technology. I
also am involved in clonal mass propagation (in vitro) research of high value horticultural plants (food, medicinal and stimulants crops) at laboratory and semi-commercial
scales.
