Eucalyptus Pine Pathogen Interaction
Research Interests
I completed my BSc in Genetics (2007) and BSc (Hons) in Genetics (2008). Presently I am doing my Masters in the Eucalyptus Pine Pathogen Interactions research group, under the supervision of Dr. Sanushka Naidoo.
The title of my project is the molecular basis of induced resistance in Pinus patula. Through pre-treatment of plants with compounds that stimulate resistance, a process known as induced resistance is activated. Induced resistance provides the plant with protection against subsequent challenges with pathogens. The aim of my project is to understand the molecular basis of induced resistance by identifying host transcriptional changes responding to the inducer in pine. It is proposed that specific inducers applied could enhance the resistance against various Pine pathogens such as Botrytis cinerea, Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium circinatum, Fusarium oxysporum etc..
On a more personal note
