Research Interests
1. Research on the genetics of virulence evolution in the nematode Deladenus siricidicola, and assess its potential of influencing ecological interactions and control efficiency.
-
Compare sequence data and microsatellite data to characterize the molecular population diversity and structure amongst different strains and different regions.
-
Optimize technique to characterize reproductive potential of Deladenus siricidicola on Amylostereum strains and different Amylostereum species.
-
Use suppression substractive hybridization followed next generation sequencing methods to compare expression profiles from different phenotypic types strains of Deladenus siricidicola that are most closely related, or alternatively from groups of individuals which has developed into infective and non-infective forms, respectively.
3. Survey of the diversity of native Steinernema and Heterorhabiditis spp. and their bacterial symbionts from forest environments in South Africa.
-
Identification of Steinernema and Heterorhabiditis spp. by means of morphology and molecular biology
-
Biodiversity of Steinernema and Heterorhabiditis spp. species in South Africa.
