Research Interests
In 2007 I conducted my BSc(Honours) research under the supervision of Dr Gert Marais. We studied pectinase and cellulose production in eighteen different fungi isolated from kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus). These enzymes are responsible for loosening of the kenaf fibres used in the production of motor vehicle composite panels, for example. For my MSc research project, I will study the epidemiology of Fusarium circinatum, the causal agent of pitch canker in pine trees under the supervision of Dr Emma Steenkamp.
