Bacteria Genomics and Plant Pathogen Interactions
Research Interests
My PhD was conducted at the Scottish Crop Research Institute in Dundee, United Kingdom. I worked with Prof Paul Birch and Dr Ian Toth on Pectobacterium atrosepticum with a focusing on the T3SS. My interest was in the effectors of the T3SS, their secretion and translocation into the host, and the interaction (by either suppression or manipulation) with host defence mechanisms.
I am still fascinated by the complex interplay between bacteria and their host plants. since joining the university if Pretoria, I have started working with Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. brasiliences. We are interested in studying its virulence mechansisms and their targets in host plants (potato).
