Research Interests

Although I am currently doing a PhD in the UK, I still consider myself a part of FABI (I wonder how long the site administrator will feel the same way...)

Broadly, my interests encompass the causes and consequences of molecular evolution, particularly when it is associated with adaptive changes or speciation. Each genome is a unique result of the combined effects of mutation, selection, gene-flow, recombination, genetic drift etc. The combination of all these factors has shaped Earth's biodiveristy. I think there is much to be gained from an understanding of how and why genomes evolve (or stay the same).

My MSc, which was supervised by Brenda Wingfield, Mike wingfield, and Emma Steenkamp, and which I completed in 2010, was focussed on reproductive genes in the Ascomycete fungi, with a specific focus on Fusarium.

Here is a link to my current lab site.
