Ms Christy Marais
I joined the Forest Molecular Genetics (FMG) group as research assistant in the Marker Team in 2014. Previously, I completed a BSc and BSc(Hons) in Animal Science at the University of Pretoria. In 2013, I completed my MSc in Animal Science, specialising in Animal Breeding and Genetics, under the supervision of Dr Carina Visser and Prof Esté van Marle-Köster. Currently I am one of four researchers involved in DNA fingerprinting using microsatellite DNA markers in commercially-grown Eucalyptus and Pinus species in South Africa. Analyses routinely performed include clonal analysis, parentage verification and species discrimination.
