I am a postdoctoral researcher with the Forest and Molecular Genetics group of Prof Zander Myburg. My research interests are in the area of plant biochemistry and genetics. I am currently using the latest high-throughput genotyping technology to generate a high density genetic map of Eucalyptus grandis x E. urophylla. The purpose is to localize quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for agronomically important traits. Molecular markers are one way in which biotechnology and the rapidly expanding knowledge of DNA sequences in plant genomes can be used to improve the efficiency of classical breeding. This should be especially helpful for large perennial crops such as Eucalyptus.
