I became part of the members of FABI family in June, 2014. And I am currently enrolled for my PhD degree under the supervision of Dr. S.F. Chen, Prof. J. Roux and M.J. Wingfield in the Department of Microbiology and Plant Pathology in the University of Pretoria. The research aspect of my project focused on the Ceratocystis spp. associated with Eucalyptus spp. in China. Specifically, I investigated aspects regarding their taxonomy, phylogeny, biology as well as the population in the C. fimbriata s.l and C. moniliformis s.l. complexes.
I’m a member of TPCP (Tree Protection Co-operative Programme) and CFTPP (CERC-FABI Tree Protection Programme). I stayed in CERC (China Eucalypt Research Centre) for nearly one year for fungal sampling and isolation before I joined in FABI. During my project to date, approximately 500 isolates of Ceratocystis fungi and 500 other ophiostomatoid fungi have been sampled from Eucalypts and other hosts in Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan and Fujian Provinces in South China. I trust my research results will help to understand the species diversity, population biology and pathology of Ceratocystis on their hosts, especially in China.
