Ms Kholosa Maqolo
I am an intern within the Phytosanitation and Biosecurity program. I hold a BSc in Genetics and Zoology, BSc (Hons) in Genetics with a focus on plant molecular genetics and an MSc degree in plant breeding, all obtained at the University of the Free State. My MSc degree was an interdisciplinary between plant pathology and plant breeding and its aim was to characterize a potential new stem rust resistance gene against stem rust in wheat cultivars.
My research interest is but not limited to the improvement of staple crops genetically and I hope this internship will give me insight in research done to protect the crops grown in the country against pathogens known to cause yield loss.
