I joined the Forest Molecular Genetics Programme during March of 2004. Currently I am responsible for the development of microsatellite fingerprinting panels for various Eucalyptus tree species and Pinus patula. These markers will be used for a variety of applications in applied forest tree breeding including fingerprinting of clonal material, estimation of pollen contamination in controlled crosses, determination of pollen competition in polymix crosses, estimation of selfing or outcrossing rates in seed orchards and parentage analysis in mixed crosses. This research is funded under the UP-Sappi-Mondi Wood and Fibre Molecular Genetics Programme.
