FABI senior lecturer, Dr Nicky Creux, and PhD student, Ms Phrasia Mapfumo attended the 20th International Sunflower Conference in Novi Sad, Serbia from the 20-23 June. The conference takes place every four years and is the premium event for the International Sunflower Association (ISA). This year the conference focused on ‘Sunflower for the 21st century - Innovations for sustainability in changing environments’. Dr Creux was an invited plenary speaker and presented on the delicate balancing act of climate control during flowering, pollination and seed development in Sunflower. Ms Mapfumo represented FABI in the lighting talks discussing the impact of planting date on Sunflower development and Sclerotinia head rot progression. This conference is an opportunity for the industry and scientific communities working in sunflower across the globe to come together and discuss the major issues facing global sunflower production.
