I am primarily a plant pathologist, with particular interest for the diversity of fungal plant pathogens and their ecological interactions. My PhD studies focused on tree-infecting Ceratocystis species (Microascales) in Africa. Specifically, I investigated aspects regarding their taxonomy, phylogeny population biology as well as the ecological factors influencing their spatial distribution on local to global scales. This has included studies into better understanding the strength and foundations of the association between Ceratocystis species and nitidulid beetles (Coleoptera, Nitidulidae).
