I am currently pursuing my Msc degree in Plant Pathology under the supervision of Dr Lucy Moleleki. My research project focuses on understanding the basis of cultivar-specific resistance in potato plants during infection by Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. brasiliensis. I will focus on elucidating performed and biochemically induced defense responses in both the resistant and susceptible cultivars respectively by identifying differentially expressed genes during plant-microbe interaction this will help us in understanding host defense mechanisms in potato, with the long term aim of identifying and developing resistant potato cultivars.
