I joined FABI in 2015 as a Masters student in the department of Genetics. My research project is on the population genetics of Chrysoporthe, a group of Ascomycetes that cause canker disease in members of order Myrtales which includes the economically important Eucalyptus trees.
The objectives of my study are to firstly develop microsatellite markers for cross species amplification in Chrysoporthe species and secondly use these markers to analyse the diversity and movement pattern of Chrysoporthe austroafricana isolated from different countries in Southern Africa.
