Ms Granny Hlongwane
I have an honours degree in Microbiology from the University of Limpopo ( Turfloop Campus), Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Biotechnology. My research focus was based on the use of medicinal plants secondary metabolites to alleviate nosocomial infections associated with bacteria. Currently I am a Masters student at the University of Pretoria, FABI (Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute).
For my masters project I will be looking into a new disease incursion on Eucalyptus sp. in South Africa. I will be identifying the pathogen responsible for the disease and investigate the population diversity of the pathogen collected from diseased plant material, and soil baiting, using microsatellite markers.
