Fusarium is amongst the most devastating fungal pathogens of maize, resulting in significant yield losses, as well as the accumulation of a myriad of harmful mycotoxins. My MSc project aims to identify the biodiversity of this pathogen on maize (Zea mays L.) and its associated soil. This taxonomic study will allow for better knowledge into the various sources of inoculum that can ultimately result in disease manifestation, Thus ultimately reduce the impact of this pathogen.
