Ms Nombulelo Qikani
Biochemistry, Genetics and Microbiology
I completed BSc in Agriculture (plant pathology) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2019. I did my honor's degree under the supervision of Dr Kwasi Yobo, where I was evaluating Bacillus species that I isolate from poultry litter to control Aspergillus flavus in groundnut.
I am currently a masters student under the supervision of prof. Cobus Visagie. My study is entitled identification and characterization of soil fungi and Oomycetes with a focus on plant pathogens on maize agricultural farms in Free State and North West, South Africa. The main objectives of this survey study are to isolate and culture fungi and Oomycetes from maize agricultural soils and identify them based on morphology and molecular DNA.
