I completed my undergraduate degree at the UP in BSc Biochemistry (with a dual major in Genetics) in 2024.
Under the supervision of Prof. Martin Coetzee and mentor Ms. Janie Coetzer, I completed my Honours degree in Genetics. My research project was on the siderophore gene clusters of Armillaria and Ganoderma species.
In 2026, I started my MSc in Genetics changing kingdoms to the world of Rhizobia still under the supervision of Prof. Coetzee, Prof. Fanus Venter, Prof. Emma Steenkamp and Dr. Juanita Avontuur. My project on the biodiversity of root nodule bacteria of Dichrostachys cinerea (Sekelbos) could help understand the extent to how Sekelbos is such a successful grassland encroacher. My project also includes Cajanus cajan (Pigeon pea), a generalist legume with strikingly high stress tolerance (heat, drought and low soil fertility). It all comes together where I test whether strains isolated from Sekelbos will be effective symbionts of Pigeon peas in the hopes of improving their growth in agricultural practices.
I also work in the TPCP Diagnostics Clinic
