Some 40 FABI students and interns working in the Tree Protection Co-operative Programme (TPCP), DSI-NRF Centre of Excellence in Tree Health Biotechnology (CPHB) and Grain Research Programme participated in the last tree planting event for 2021. This enthusiastic group  spent the morning planting 2,500 Eucalypt seedlings and 700 maize seeds that will all be used in numerous FABI research projects incoming months. They also rolled up their sleeves and assisted in cleaning the FABI Nursery, disposing of old trees that were no longer needed and tidying up those plants that are still to be used in various projects. Tree planting events are held regularly in FABI where all students attached to the various research programmes are asked to assist with this important task. This is even if the  plants to be established are not directly associated with their own research projects. Thus a team effort that benefits the large and diverse FABI research community. These events are also a fun et and all participants were rewarded with a pizza lunch before heading home to prepare for the FABI Year End Function that was hosted later that afternoon.
