FABI Professors Irene Barnes, Brett Hurley and Mike Wingfield recently spent a week with APRIL (Asia Pacific Resources International Ltd) Group colleagues in Indonesia. The focus of their visit was to review collaborative research projects dealing with plantation pest and disease problems that constitute part of the RGE-FABI Tree Health Programme. The visit included engagements with members of the company research team as well as students based in Indonesia and South Africa, as well as presentations that formed part of the annual RGE-FABI THP symposium. Overall, the team, including four PhD students and a postdoctoral Fellow as well as research leaders, enjoyed sharing the outstanding results of a wide range of projects dealing with diseases caused by species of Ceratocystis and Ganoderma as well as insect pests such as leaf rollers and wood boring beetles.
