Sarah Wild, Science Editor and multi-award winning journalist for the leading newspaper, The Mail & Guardian, visited FABI on 9 February when she conducted an interview with FABI Director, Prof. Mike Wingfield. This was followed by a guided tour of FABI and its laboratory facilities at the nearby research farm led by Prof. Bernard Slippers.
Sarah is doing background research for a book on the role of science and innovation in the economy and development of South Africa. The broad range of work done by FABI researchers, from very basic biology to applied research through links to industry and government, is very relevant to this quest.
In 2013 Sarah was named the ‘Best Science Journalist in Africa’ by Siemens in their 2013 Pan-African Profiles Awards. Sarah has managed to combine her passion for journalism and science having studied Physics, electronics and English literature at Rhodes University.
