The Lesotho National Biosafety Coordinating Committee embarked on a study tour to South Africa, from 16-20 October, for members of the the Lesotho Legislature to obtain first-hand experiences and observe practices on modern biotechnology and biosafety regulation. They aimed to visit labs involved in production and testing of GMOs, laboratories, green houses, communities who are using GMOs, receive lectures on GMOs and biosafety and to meet with experienced inspectors and the South African regulatory bodies at National and/or Provincial level. As part of this initiative, the delegation visited FABI on 18 October. Dr Sanushka Naidoo and Mrs Adri Veale hosted the team at FABI and presented a talk on “Science communication and engagement in the context of Biosafety – the South African Experiences” accompanied by a tour of the GM facilities.
