Students and staff at FABI got their hands dirty and spent the morning on 23 November replanting 3,000 cuttings into potting bags at the FABI Nursery on the University of Pretoria’s experimental farm. The team of nearly 30 made light work of the exercise, which marked the last tree planting of 2018. Forestry companies who are members of in the Tree Protection Co-operative Programme (TPCP) supplied the plants, which consisted of Acacia mearnsiiEucalyptus and Pinus cuttings. These are central to the various research programmes under the FABI umbrella. They are used for a number of experiments such as testing for resistance to different pathogens and insects as well as research on biological control.
