With the agricultural sector's growing interest in sustainable agriculture and soil health conservation, my MSc project will focus on the soil microbiome biodiversity and potato health. The project is divided into two major components, the first of which will investigate how rising temperatures and atmospheric CO2 levels affect the soil microbiome and potato health. The second component will investigate how agricultural practices affect the soil microbiome, potato health, and forage quality of cover crops. I had completed my honours in Plant Pathology, looking specifically at the effect of crop rotation on suppressing important soil-borne pathogens of potatoes in South Africa. I will continue under the supervision of Prof. Jacquie van der Waals with the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences.
