My name is Junior Mateya. I am an agricultural science graduate with a strong interest in plant health and crop protection. I hold a Diploma in Plant Science (Crop Production), completed in 2022, and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture majoring in Agronomy and Horticulture from North-West University, completed in 2025. My fourth-year research project focused on plant protection (weed science) where I was Evaluating mulch strategies for weed management in Cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata L.) production.
During my studies, I gained practical experience in molecular and diagnostic techniques, including PCR, DNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, and ELISA, which enhanced my understanding of pathogen detection and plant disease diagnostics. My academic background and research interests align closely with the Centre of Excellence in Plant Health Biotechnology (CPHB) and Grain research program, particularly in the application of molecular tools for plant health, as plant diseases pose significant threats to grain yield and quality.
