The FMG programme is seeking a researcher or senior researcher to support a research focus on tree molecular genetics and genomics and to provide academic, technical, and project management support to the FMG Director. This is a three-year contract appointment, with the possibility of extension pending excellent performance and availability of external funding.

Position for M.Sc. candidate: Pathogenicity of Fusarium spp. on pine seedlings and determining causal agents of post-planting mortality

An M.Sc. position is available within the Tree Protection Co-operative Programme (TPCP) at the Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute (FABI) of the University of Pretoria. The TPCP is an interdisciplinary programme focused on research on pests and pathogens of plantation trees and is considered one of the strongest research programmes in the world working on tree health.

Vacancies: MSc/PhD/postdoctoral Fellowship

A number of vacancies for MSc, PhD and post doctoral Fellowship are now open in the Bacterial Genomics and Host Pathogen Interactions group (Department of Biochemistry Genetics and Microbiology, FABI). Our research is aimed at understanding plant pathogen interactions with a focus on three major groups of phytopathogens including bacteria, oomycetes and nematodes.

Postdoctoral Position in Biological Control and Monitoring of the Polyphagous Shothole Borer (PSHB) 

We seek to hire a postdoctoral research fellow to conduct mission oriented research to develop and improve integrated pest management tactics and strategies for the Polyphagous Shot Hole Borer (PSHB), Euwallacea fornicatus, and its Fusarium fungal symbiont in South Africa. Emphasis will be on the potential biological control of this insect. This position is part of a larger project on the PSHB invasion in South Africa, funded by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE).

The deadline for application is 10 November, 2023. The applicant will be expected to start in January or February 2024.
