Special Seminar
Date: 2019-08-07 15h00
Venue: FABI seminar room
Please join us for a special seminar by Prof. Robin Crewe on Wednesday 7 August at 15h00 in the FABI Auditorium.
The title of his talk is: "The Dark Side of the Feminine Monarchy: individual behaviour in honey bees".
Abstract:
Much of the work that has been done on honey bees has focussed on the behaviour of the colony as a super organism. The study of the behaviour of individual workers bees has been directed to those behaviours that contribute to colony fitness. However, it has been possible with the use of molecular genetic techniques to begin to understand behaviour of workers that contributes to individual fitness, often to the detriment of colony fitness. This richer understanding of the dynamics of worker behaviour will be explored in the seminar.
Refreshments will be served after the seminar.
