FABI hosted a visit by a delegation from the Lesotho Department of Agricultural Research (DAR) on 11 October. The nine delegates visited the institute to seek advice on how to establish a Regional Centre of Leadership on Horticulture based Farming System. They also discussed possible future collaboration in various research fields including pest and disease diagnosis and management as well as plant breeding. DAR has secured funding through the Agricultural Productivity Programme for Southern Africa (APPSA), to improve crop research and pests identification and diagnosis capacity in Lesotho. APPSA is a regional project supported by separate World Bank to help countries enhance long term availability of safe and nutritious food. The group was welcomed by FABI Deputy-Director Prof. Fanus Venter and met with several researchers before being taken on a tour of the Institute as well as the Innovation Africa @UP campus and the FABI Biocontrol Centre.
