The final talk for 2021 in the popular FABI International Seminar series Multi-scale modelling to predict and understand sunflower tolerance to abiotic stresses and uses of high-throughput phenotyping,” was presented by Dr Nicolas Langlade. There is a rising demand for seed oils for the global biofuels industry but climate change is expected to have a dramatic impact on sunflower crop yields in Europe in the coming years. Dr Langlade expanded on the integrative approach conducted within the Sunflower Resources to Improve Yield Stability in a Changing Environment (SUNRISE) Project that combines crop modelling and quantitative genetics to understand and predict drought tolerance by sunflowers. He also shows how they took advantage of the high-throughput phenotyping platforms in their research work.
