FABI-11.jpg

FABI was honoured to receive a visit on 11 September by a delegation of forestry industry representatives from Sarawak in Malaysia. The 14-member delegation represented the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation, Grand Perfect Pasaka (GPP) and the Forestry Department of Sarawak.

FABI was the group’s first stop on a week-long tour of forestry industry companies, suppliers and research institutes in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga. The group was briefed on the current state of the South African forestry industry by Forestry South Africa’s Executive Director, Michael Peter, before Prof. Wilhelm de Beer presented a detailed overview of FABI and the research work conducted at the Institute. The group was then taken on a tour of FABI’s facilities including the Biocontrol Centre on the University of Pretoria’s research farm.
