My project focuses on predictive models for disease resistance whereby, we employ vibrational spectroscopy tools such as Fourier Transform infrared (FT-IR) and Near infrared (NIR) coupled with multivariate analysis tools such as SIMCA to classify plants into phenotypic groups as resistant or susceptible to a particular pathogen. This allows rapid identification of resistant phenotypes against certain pathogens thus saving time and allowing for more specific disease management as well as quicker incorporation of resistant phenotypes in breeding programs.
