FABI at the 93rd Annual Meeting of the Mycological Society of America (MSA) 2025-07-28
The 93rd Annual Meeting of the Mycological Society of America (MSA) was held at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW) from 28 June to 2 July 2025, with the theme ‘Fungal Futures: Cultivating Mycology and Mycologists’. The meeting brought together more than 400 mycologists from around the globe.
FABI was represented by Prof. Cobus Visagie and Dr Neriman Yilmaz. Cobus was an invited speaker and presented his views on the modern taxonomy of Aspergillus and Penicillium as part of a University Lectureship. Neriman gave her presentation 'Unravelling the mycotoxin cocktail: Fusarium diversity and contamination in Eastern Cape maize' during a symposium that was focused on climate change and the threats of mycotoxigenic fungi.
After the meeting, Cobus and Neriman visited Prof. Anne Pringle at UW and spent a week with her research group. During this time, they joined a field collection trip and engaged with researchers at UW to discuss potential future collaborations. They also gave a workshop on how to describe fungal species and capture publication-quality images of their colonies and microscopic features.
Cobus and Neriman would like to congratulate Anne and the rest of the organising committee for an excellent MSA meeting. They would also like to thank Anne, David Johnson and Penelope Johnson for their kind hospitality during their almost three-week stay in Madison.
