Two articles on the valuable work done at FABI on monitoring and surveillance of the polyphagous shothole borer were re-published in the February edition of Wood Southern Africa & Timber Times. The publication with a 45-year history styles itself as a “mouthpiece to the timber industry” and is distributed to several countries in sub-Saharan Africa. The magazine picked up on two articles initially published in The Conversation and the FABI website on the work done by members of the PSHB Research Network. The first article by postdoctoral Fellow Dr Trudy Paap, reflects on the national response two years after the detection of PSHB in South Africa. The second article focuses on a visit by Prof. Wilhelm de Beer and Prof. Francois Roets based in Stellenbosch University to Somerset West in the Western Cape in December. The duo witnessed the devastating impact of the spread of PSHB in the town.
