I completed my BSc Genetics (2019) and a BSc Hons in Plant Science with Majors in Crop Physiology and Biotechnology at the University of Pretoria in 2020. I joined the TPCP diagnostic clinic as an intern in the SACTA/CPHB Internship programme (2021), which piqued my interest in plant pathology.

My MSc research project is entitled “Comparative population genetics of Exserohilum turcicum, a foliar pathogen of maize in smallholder and emerging commercial farms in Kenya, Uganda and South Africa” under the supervision of Dr David Nsibo and Prof Dave Berger.

Maize disease outreach extends to Kenya

Building on maize disease outreach activities with smallholder farmers in South Africa, two FABIans represented the University of Pretoria in farmer outreach activities in Kenya.
