Eight FABI researchers were honoured at the University of Pretoria Academic Achievers Award event on 25 November. This annual awards ceremony is usually hosted in April but the COVID-19 lockdown resulted in this event being postponed and hosted virtually.

Professors Fanus Venter and Dave Berger were both honoured with the Exceptional Academic Achievers Award. This award is made annually to a small group of senior academics at UP who are regarded highly by their peers, and have consistently excelled in the areas of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and learning, research, community service and administration over a sustained period of time. The awards ceremony also recognised those UP academics who have new NRF ratings ie were rated or re-rated by the NRF in 2019. FABIans included were: Prof. Brenda Wingfield who retained her A-rating, Drs Steven Hussey and Cobus Visagie for their P-ratings (President’s Award) and Prof. Lucy Moleleki, Dr Magriet van der Nest and Prof Juan Vorster for their C-ratings.
