On the evening of the 26 July, the University of Pretoria hosted the Entomological Society of Southern Africa (ESSA) AGM. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss society activities and organisational matters including increasing the visibility of the Society’s journal as well as the next ESSA conference (being held from 8-12 July 2019 in Durban). The AGM was followed by a lecture give the President of ESSA, Dr Chris Weldon, entitled “Adaptability of tephritid flies to environmental stress may explain their invasiveness”

Some “insect nerds” and ESSA members from FABI attended the meeting including Prof Stefan Neser, Dr Mesfin Gossa, Samantha Bush, Firehiwot Eshetu and Quentin Guignard as members of the Society. FABI sponsored the social function organising pizza as well as providing plates, glasses and logistic help. In addition, a wonderful team of FABIans assisted with setting up. They were: Ashleigh Smith, Ricu Claassens and Josephine Queffelec. Thanks to all of them the meeting was a great success!
