The Fusarium genus consists of a diverse group of filamentous ascomycete fungi.  Members of this complex cause disease on economically important plants, with an estimated 80% of cultivated crops having at least one associated Fusarium disease.  They are also known to produce mycotoxins, toxic secondary metabolites that affect the quality as well as the safety of the affected crops.  My focus is on Fusarium species within the Fusarium fujikuroi species complex (FFSC).  

Owing to the global importance of this complex, much research has been done, including whole-genome sequencing (WGS).    There is WGS sequence data available for numerous representatives of this complex. This provides the platform to explore the genomic commonalities and differences amongst the FFSC.  My current research is exploring the synteny of these genomes, specifically investigating the intra- and interspecific similarity of chromosomes within the FFSC.
